If you’re designing a mobile app, we’re building Play for you. Play combines a familiar design canvas with the power of Apple's native iOS elements, access to device hardware, and interactions that use Core Animation. Play takes a new approach to app design by giving you access to the native materials of the medium, but design and prototype from both your Mac and iPhone.

Play to Xcode
With Play to Xcode, your Play project is no longer just a prototype. You can use Play’s SDK to export your project’s styles, assets, components, pages, and variables directly into Xcode as a Swift package. Everything will look and behave 1:1 with how you designed it in Play.
You can always update the package based on new changes in Play, making it easy to keep your design tool and code base in sync.
Bringing External Data into Play
You can now bring real data into your Play prototypes from an external data source like an API or a JSON file! Our new Fetch node allows you to connect to an API, and save the API’s response as a dictionary variable. Our new LocalJSON node lets you do the same with a JSON file.
Once the data is loaded into Play, you can use its values and content to populate your prototype!
Interaction SwiftUI Code Export
In addition to our existing Layout SwiftUI code export, we’ve added Interaction SwiftUI code export. In the Interaction Mode Code Panel, you can copy the interaction code and paste it into Xcode. The Xcode simulator will display placeholder UI that responds to the given trigger and completes the given actions.
Speech Recognition Trigger
Our new Speech trigger uses Apple’s SF Speech Recognition to activate a user’s iOS device’s microphone and outputs the user’s spoken words. Speech triggers can be tested through Play Mode and exported as part of Play’s SDK, but they will not work in App Clips due to limitation with Apple's Speech Recognition through App Clips.
Improvements
- We improved our onboarding flow to recommend starting point projects for users based on their intended use case.
- We added new Expression Editor properties for map elements (latitude and longitude coordinates)
- We added new Expression Editor properties for tab bar (BG color, selected and unselected colors)
- We also added a new Expression Editor function allowing to joint strings of an array to a single array.
- We’ve added a new loader element: Activity Indicator.
- Element event triggers, like Text Events, Picker Events, etc., will no longer be added by default.
- Your iPhone will no longer go to sleep when the iOS Play app is open and connected to macOS.
- We now support two new audio file types, .caf and .m4a, in addition to .mp3.
- We now support .ahap files for custom haptics in addition to .JSON files.
- Users on a Free plan will now be limited to five pages per project. Existing Play users will keep all existing pages but won’t be able to create additional pages.
- Image element now have two new properties: Rendering Mode and Tint Adjustment Mode
Bugs
- Audio did not play back when using an App Clip
- Custom fonts didn’t display correctly in the Play iOS app
- Set Rive Input actions were not working with the Toggle Tap prefab
